Cabernet Sauvignon – perfect pairing with grilled steak
In the Spring, it seems all of my friends begin to sip lighter white wines. I continue to enjoy big bold red wines. When I fire up my grill, there is nothing better than a Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with my perfectly grilled steak. Recently I was treated to a bottle of 2017 Ehler’s Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Casual Friday Date Night – Dinner + Movie
I tend to break the rules sometimes with food and wine pairings. I love triple-crème cheeses and my husband loves Fontina. We both love cabs, so I served these cheeses with our Ehler’s Estate cab. Fabulous pairing and just the right appetizer for a casual Friday evening. We watched “Made You Look – a true story about fake art” on Netflix. The documentary is a fascinating depiction of the various dealers, collectors and gallery owners who found themselves embroiled in the largest art fraud – $80 million – in American history.
Ehlers Estate Cabernet is made from a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Ehlers Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is an outstanding representation of Ehlers Estate’s unique Saint Helena location (pictured below).
Upon opening a bottle, expect intense aromas of Asian Spice mix, violets, dark berry jam, black olives, sweet cherries, sage and a deep long minerality. The 2017 vintage showcases a beautiful tannin structure with balanced acidity and a long finish of minerals, cedar, dark chocolate and wild berry jam. Ready to drink now, but it will age exceptionally well for 10-15 more years!
We found this wine to be absolutely delightful. We could taste the lovely fruit, but it was not too fruit-forward or jammy. Balanced and smooth. Looking forward to my next bottle of Ehlers Estate Cabernet.
